Key Crows defender suffers injury setback

2021-03-30T08:59+11:00

Adelaide defender Daniel Talia has revealed he has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

The 29-year-old underwent an arthroscope on his troublesome left knee in September last year and was due to return to action in the coming weeks.

Talia was set to play some minutes in the SANFL next weekend, but is now dealing with a foot issue on the same leg which is expected to keep him sidelined for a little while longer.

“I’ve had a bit of a setback,” Talia revealed on SEN SA’s Kymbo & The Rooch.

“I actually got through training last week but just pulled up a bit sore in my foot on the same side.

“The knee was coming along really well but the foot on that side is maybe compensating a bit and is just a bit sore.

“I didn’t do any training last week. I’ve just had a scan and there’s no fracture or anything, it’s just an inflamed tendon.

“It’s pretty frustrating. I was going to play last week, but this might set me back a week or two depending on how it pulls up.

“I’m just about there, but obviously this is a setback.”

Talia says a cortisone injection he received last week has not had the desired effect and has forced him off his legs in a bid to speed up the recovery process.

“I had a jab last week so we were hoping it would work a bit better, but it hasn’t done too much,” the two-time All-Australian added.

“It’s just a bit of time off the leg to be honest. I had all last week off after the jab and tried to run on Wednesday and it wasn’t great.

“This is going to take a bit more time. It’s really disappointing.

“I was probably a session away from actually getting out there and maybe having a half in the SANFL, but it’s just a slight setback.

“I’m hoping it’s not too long.”

The Crows have been much improved in Talia’s absence, winning their opening match of the season against Geelong in Round 1 before going down to Sydney by 33 points last weekend.

They host Gold Coast at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
