McCullough says wantaway Cowboy would be a “welcome addition” at St. George Illawarra

St. George Illawarra hooker Andrew McCullough believes his ex-teammate Josh McGuire would be a “welcome addition” at the Dragons as the forward looks set to leave North Queensland.

Despite being contracted to the Cowboys until 2022, Todd Payten confirmed last week that the club wouldn’t stand in McGuire’s way if a rival club wanted his services for next season.

The 31-year-old previously played with McCullough and Ben Hunt for the Broncos under current Dragons coach Anthony Griffin.

McCullough told NCA Newswire that McGuire could add depth to the club’s forward pack.

“There are obviously rumours and loopholes in rugby league, but I’m not too sure what the plan is. He’d be a welcome addition,” McCullough said after the Dragons’ Round 4 victory over Newcastle."

“It’s one of those things where you don’t want to get involved so I’ll just leave that up to the guys at the Dragons and Josh to work it out.

“Adding any depth to our forward pack will only help, especially if it’s a bloke with his sort of experience.

“The blokes that are here are doing a fantastic job. We’ve won three on the trot and they deserve all the credit they get.”

The 3-1 Dragons next face the Parramatta Eels at Bankwest Stadium on Sunday.
