Malcolm Blight on what makes Sam Walsh so good

2021-04-08T10:58+10:00

Australian football Legend inductee Malcolm Blight has given his insight into what makes Sam Walsh so good.

The third-year Carlton midfielder continues to get better, finishing with a career-high 37 disposals in the club’s win over Fremantle.

“I watched him last week and he doesn’t fumble,” Blight told SEN Mornings.

“The great players, they just don’t fumble do they? In tight his ability to see, and he’s one of those rare beasts that can actually kick the footy and also handball under pressure. They are hard to find.

“Dusty (Martin) will push off, probably not handball. Other players will look to handball. (Walsh) can actually do both.”

Blight gave his thoughts on just how good Walsh can become.

“I would suggest, you don’t like putting tags on people, but he’s a best and fairest winner, he’s an All-Australian and maybe he knocks on the door of a Brownlow Medal,” Blight said.

Walsh already has a decent trophy cabinet, winning the 2019 AFL Rising Star award, the 2020 Mark of the Year and finishing second in Carlton’s best and fairest last year.
