Manager confirms Reynolds will “explore the market” in search of long-term deal

2021-04-08T11:31+10:00

South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds looks certain to leave the Rabbitohs after club powerbrokers refused to budge on their one-year offer.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the club held a meeting with player manager Steve Gillis on Wednesday but wouldn’t up their offer of one extra year guaranteed.

Reynolds, 30, had previously stated he would accept a two-year deal with the club, but he knocked back a fresh Rabbitohs offer which included the potential of a second year heavily weighted in the club’s favour.

The second year in the offer allowed the club to part ways with the star if 2022 didn’t go to plan, but Reynolds was unwilling to accept those terms.

It is believed the halfback could attract up to a three-year deal elsewhere, and Gillis told NRL.com that he would now begin talks with rival clubs.

"We'll now engage with interested parties and explore the market and see where that takes us," Gillis said.

"I anticipate there will be plenty of interest in him. We'll just work through that and see how we go."

The North Queensland Cowboys are believed to be the club in the box seat to secure Reynolds, but are yet to table the playmaker an official offer.
