"I feel like I can be myself": Quaynor loving Magpie life

2021-04-09T16:41+10:00

Collingwood defender Isaac Quaynor is loving life at the Holden Centre and says the culture at the club is strong.

The Magpies made headlines in the pre-season after the release of a report into systemic racism found the club guilty of racism.

Quaynor, a man of Ghanese descent, could not speak more highly of the current make-up of the club.

“I have nothing bad to say about the culture currently at the Collingwood Football Club,” the defender told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“I love it there, I love the boys there, I feel involved, I feel part of the group, I feel like I can be myself which is the important thing.

“Hopefully that continues to happen and it translates into my football. When you’ve got a healthy mind, it usually translates on the field and so far so good.”

Quaynor had to say goodbye to childhood friend Tom Phillips in the trade period, when he moved to Hawthorn.

The 21-year-old however is hopeful everyone will end up winning from the deal.

“He was obviously at Beverley Hills and that’s my local club and where my brothers play and he’s a Beverley Hills man and his dad is very involved in the club still,” Quaynor said.

“Obviously it’s tough to see a familiar face go, but at the end of the day that’s just football, it’s a business.

“He was very professional about the way he handled it and he’s doing really well at Hawthorn and it’s really good to see him doing his thing over there.

“In the long run it might work out really well for both parties.”

The Magpies received pick 65 for Phillips, a selection that went unused.
