Report: Former Freo key forward walks away from WAFL side after one game

2021-04-09T16:55+10:00

Former Fremantle and GWS forward Cam McCarthy has walked away from WAFL side South Fremantle after just one senior game.

According to a report in The West Australian, the 26-year-old has not turned up to training since he was omitted from the side following Round 1.

He gathered four disposals in the win over West Perth.

South Fremantle provided a statement to The West Australian, revealing they had not heard from McCarthy since the game.

“As always, the club’s main concern is with Cam’s health and we will continue to assist in this area,” the club statement said.

McCarthy played 70 games at AFL level across his time at the Dockers and Giants, kicking 99 goals.

He tumultuously parted ways with Freo during the 2020 season after being informed he would not receive a contract for 2021.

McCarthy trained with South Fremantle for the remainder of 2020 before joining them officially this year.
