What does Paul Roos' typical week at North Melbourne look like?

North Melbourne coach David Noble has provided more detail on coaching great and mentor Paul Roos’ position at Arden Street.

A premiership coach with Sydney before dragging Melbourne out of the doldrums, Roos last off-season signed up to a consultancy role that sees him liaise with all levels of the Kangaroos’ operations.

Noble says Roos is a visible presence around the club, starting with a post-game review each Monday.

“'Roosy' will also do a main session - he’ll be in today - then he’ll sit in the box,” the coach explained on SEN SA Breakfast.

“(So) he’s got two days during the week with us, face to face, and then he’s with us on game day as well.”

The rookie coach is pleased to be able to cherry-pick from the famous “Bloods Culture” that Roos led in the harbour city, and from his experience piecing Melbourne back together.

“He’s come from Sydney being a successful cultural environment, to Melbourne experiencing the same sort of growth and development that we’re going through,” Noble continued.

“So to have Roosy as a sounding board has been terrific.

“It’s great to get challenged in some of our thinking with the direction that we might want to take, versus some of the thoughts and processes that he’s been through.”

The Kangaroos boss also spoke warmly of forward line coach Heath Younie, who crossed from Adelaide over summer.

Younie coached the Crows’ reserves from 2014 to 2016 before taking on a development role at West Lakes.

Noble believes the former North Adelaide star could cut it in a senior role at AFL level.

“He’s got the skillset if he ever wanted to go down that path,” he said.

“His direction, his monitoring, his layering of education for us has been crucial to the way we construct our meetings.

“Heath will quite often have the final say on the delivery process and the learning structure that we need to put in place to make sure our guys have got a clear message going in and out of the meeting - what the key review points are, what the takeaways are.”

Tied to the foot of the table with three losses and a percentage of 37.4, North Melbourne will hope to stabilise their season when they take on Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
