Saints’ season “could unravel” in defining three-week period

2021-04-10T10:43+10:00

St Kilda’s season could be defined in the next three weeks.

Sitting at 1-2 and coming off dismal defeats to Melbourne and Essendon, the heat has been turned up on the Saints ahead of three difficult assignments.

They host West Coast and Richmond at Marvel Stadium before travelling to Adelaide to face the Power – three losses would leave the Saints 1-5 and their finals hopes in tatters.

Jordan Lewis fears the worst for Brett Ratten’s side if they don’t pick up a win over the next three weeks.

“They’ve got to make changes and I think ‘Roughy’ (Jarryd Roughead) alluded to that last night (Wednesday), that there will be some changes,” Lewis told SEN Breakfast.

“Their season could unravel in the next three weeks when you look at who they’re playing – West Coast, Richmond and Port Adelaide – if they go loss, loss, loss – you can nearly count them out for finals.

“They need to win I think one of those three games to remain a chance come September.”

St Kilda has sorely missed key duo Paddy Ryder and Rowan Marshall who formed a formidable ruck combination in 2020.

Marshall will return from a foot injury to face the Eagles while Ryder is back in training after taking personal leave.

“Paddy Ryder’s been the massive out, hasn’t he? And it was in circumstances they couldn’t control,” Lewis added.

“If those two players (Ryder and Marshall) came come back in the near future, that can change their whole team dynamic.”
