Luckless Carlton defender to miss entire season with knee injury

2021-04-11T15:20+10:00

Caleb Marchbank won’t play again in 2021 after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The club confirmed the news today as scans revealed the worst for the defender.

Marchbank was playing in a VFL practice match against Box Hill on Saturday when the injury occurred.

The former number six pick hasn’t played since Round 16, 2019 and Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd described his horror injury record as “unfair”.

“Caleb has been through an incredible amount of adversity and the way he has dealt with it all is a testament to his quality as a person as well as a professional,” Lloyd said in a club statement.

“There is no denying football can be unfair sometimes, especially considering how hard Caleb had worked to get his body right to play his best football once again.

“As disappointed as we all are, it does not change our belief in Caleb and the unwavering support we will provide him every step of the way through his rehabilitation and we’re sure that support will be echoed by our members and supporters.”
