Injured Power young gun sets goal for return date

Port Adelaide young gun Zak Butters will undergo ankle surgery on Monday night after sustaining the injury in last week's win over Richmond.

Scans revealed a syndesmosis tear for Butters who decided to go under the knife to fully repair the damage.

“They gave me two options with what I wanted to do,” Butters told SEN SA’s Kymbo and The Rooch.

“Not get surgery and keep it in a moon boot for a couple of weeks to try and heal itself, or get some surgery and hit it on the head.

"That way you know that when you come back it’s going to be all good and a steadier approach with the recovery.

“So I thought get some surgery and that way I know when I come back, I’ll be ready to go.”

The 20-year-old is aiming to return in five weeks and is eyeing off a big second half of the season.

“I rang a few people who have previously had the operation and played at the elite level,” Butters said.

“Some of them came back within four to five weeks, so I’ll do everything I can post-operation to get the rehab right.

“Who knows? I could be back within the next month. It’s just a matter of how it pulls up after the surgery.

“People have come back within five weeks of it, that’s going to be my goal and I’ll do everything I can to comeback within that timeframe.

"I’m setting my sights on a big second half of the year.”

Power teammate Xavier Duursma is set to miss 10-12 weeks with a right knee injury.
