St Kilda's "season-changing" win worth more than just four points

2021-04-12T12:15+10:00

St Kilda’s squared their season to 2-2 after coming from behind to beat West Coast.

The Saints kicked the last eight goals of the match to win by 20 points after trailing by as much as 33 points during the third quarter, rattling the Eagles with their manic pressure.

Tim Watson has challenged Brett Ratten’s side to bring that same effort and intensity on a consistent basis.

“They gave no effort pretty much at all against Essendon the week before,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.

“That is just the baseline when you’re playing this game, you have to bring that week in, week out.

“I know it’s difficult and side’s have fluctuations because of their mood and that type of thing, but they brought that (pressure) and even when they were down by 33 points, they were still giving effort.

“They actually took it to another level in the second half and they turned that game around.”

SEN host Dwayne Russell says St Kilda's stunning victory was worth more than just four points.

“St Kilda’s win on the weekend was worth much more than the four points – it was a season-changer for the Saints,” Russell told SEN's Dwayne's World.

“That was one that they desperately needed to have.”

Max King, who kicked a career-best five goals in the win over the Eagles, told SEN Breakfast that player-led reviews were conducted after the 75-point loss to the Bombers.

“It was obviously very disappointing last week,” King said.

“We had a big week in terms of player-driven reviews and looking at ourselves and our effort.

“To come back the way we did was pretty special for us.

“I don’t think it (our season) was ever off track. It’s now good to be 2-2 and we can try and launch from there.

“We’ve got a tough few weeks coming up, but we also know that our best footy stacks up with anyone.”
