Carlton confirms extended timeframe on Fisher return, opts to send forward into surgery

Carlton has sent forward Jack Silvgani for shoulder surgery, while Zac Fisher’s recovery timeframe from a syndesmosis injury has been extended.

Silvgani injured his shoulder in the final stages of the club’s win over Gold Coast last Saturday, with the Blues confirming late on Wednesday that he would miss a month as a result of the injury.

“Although we would have liked Jack to be available for this weekend (against Port Adelaide), we feel this is the best approach to ensure he can return to the side this season and contribute to the high level he already has in the opening rounds,” Carlton football boss Brad Lloyd said in a club statement.

“He will commence his rehab immediately following the procedure and we expect him to be available for selection again in a month.”

Carlton originally forecast that Fisher would return from injury within 3-4 weeks, but now believe he could miss as many as eight weeks after a bone growth in his ankle was found.

“Zac (Fisher) injury is unique, which is why we have explored every possible avenue over the last few weeks in regard to the best path of rehabilitation,” he said.

“After speaking with a surgeon today, it was decided this would be the appropriate course of action.

“Zac was originally expected to return in the next three to four weeks, we now expect this will extend that recovery time by a month, however it will enable a better medium and long term outcome which is really important for both Zac and the Club in regard to this season and moving forward."
