St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis is not concerned about midfielder Jack Billings putting off contract talks until later in the season.
Billings told The Age earlier in the week that he’ll “see how we go” in regards to re-signing with the club.
“I think the biggest thing was just focusing on what I could control and that was playing my part for the team each week and just focusing on footy which is the most important thing,” he said.
“You’ve got a manager who deals with all that sort of stuff for a reason, so you sort of let them look after it and you just focus on what you love doing, that’s playing footy, and I feel like that worked for me in the past, and if we’re winning I’m just happy, it’s all good.”
Finnis however said Billings usually prefers to deal with his contract situations later in the year.
“I reckon every time Jack’s come out of contract since he’s arrived at the footy club he’s left it late in the year to get (his contract) done,” the Saints CEO told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.
“It’s not been something he’s ever rushed into, so we have that history and a great relationship with Jack, his wonderful family and his management.
“They’re all the conversations that we have and we hopefully come to the right decision with all of the context on the table.”
Billings signed a two-year deal in June of 2019 when last out of contract.
