Fresh injury worry for Port Adelaide

2021-04-22T08:11+10:00

Port Adelaide’s recent run of injuries has continued with news that youngster Lachie Jones is set to spend some time on the sidelines.

The 19-year-old defender sustained an ankle syndesmosis injury in Saturday night’s win over Carlton at the MCG and will miss a decent chunk of footy.

Veteran journalist Michelangelo Rucci revealed on SEN SA Breakfast that the Power medicos are bracing for a month out for last year’s pick 16.

“The big news will come out of Alberton at some stage today,” Rucci said.

“If you remember the game against Carlton, there was a moment where Lachie Jones came off the field and on the bench had his ankle re-strapped.

“I think you’ll find today when the medical report lands at Alberton it will be at least a month out of football for the new cult figure of the Port Adelaide defence.

“The injuries are beginning to take effect at Alberton.”

The Power have since confirmed that Jones will undergo surgery and is expected to miss a month of action.

Jones has played two games for the Power, impressing with 17 disposals apiece in wins over Richmond and the Blues.

It is the latest injury to a Port young gun after Zak Butters (ankle) was forced out for 3-4 weeks and Xavier Duursma (knee) was sidelined for up to three months.

Ken Hinkley’s side currently sits fourth on the ladder with a 4-1 record ahead of Sunday’s Adelaide Oval meeting with St Kilda.
