NRL pressure gauge: Who is under the pump heading into Round 7?

2021-04-22T09:10+10:00

With six rounds played in the 2021 NRL season, pressure is starting to build on those who’ve had a poor start to their campaign.

Check out who SEN’s Matt White and Tom Costigan consider most under the pump heading into Round 7.

NRL decision makers

“For this round in particular the NRL are under pressure,” White said on SEN 1170 Mornings.

“Think about how much we’ve spoken about consistency.

“How do we draw a straight line between what happens on the field through the referees, through the bunker, then to the match review committee and to the judiciary?

“There is a clear call from the fans of the game for the NRL to try and align these better.

“We can’t have the inconsistencies that we’re seeing.”

Victor Radley
Sydney Roosters

“He’s the only one to walk out of there (the NRL judiciary) on Monday night free to play.”

“That’s a big in. It would have been a big out if he wasn’t there.”

“He will take his place against the Dragons. How does he play this one? What about the effects of the week? It could start to play on him.

“I’m keen to have a look at him this weekend.”

Ricky Stuart
Coach – Canberra Raiders

“The Raiders currently sit in ninth and they play the Cowboys this Saturday night," Costigan said.

“He’s made a number of changes, Tom Starling is in for Josh Hodgson, Josh Papalii and Joseph Tapine have gone back to their bench.

“Ryan James, Ryan Sutton and Emre Guler are starting.

“Whenever a coach makes a number of changes to a side, a lot of pressure is going to be heaped on them.

“The Raiders have underperformed to start the season, and they’re expected to win this weekend.

“It’ll be interesting to see how they’ll perform.”
