Canterbury-Bankstown powerbrokers have reportedly talked about making a shock play for North Queensland star Jason Taumalolo.
Fox Sports’ James Hooper is reporting that Bulldogs executives are so desperate to turn the club’s fortunes around that they will target the superstar lock.
Taumalolo currently has a contract worth at least $1 million a year which expires in 2027, and the Dogs would need to take on the entirety of the deal to land him.
While Hooper believes the 27-year-old is at long odds to leave North Queensland, it is believed that club insiders think a signing of Taumalolo’s ilk could rocket them up the ladder.
The club has already secured star Penrith playmaker Matt Burton and Storm winger Josh Addo-Carr for season 2022 and beyond.
The addition of Taumalolo would give coach Trent Barrett multiple attacking weapons going forward.
The Bulldogs are also in the market for Penrith duo Kurt Capewell and Brent Naden while also targeting Cronulla’s Toby Rudolf.
After an 0-6 start to the 2021 season, it appears that Canterbury will stop at nothing to completely revamp their squad heading into 2022.
