When will pressure begin to mount on Suns coach Stuart Dew?

2021-04-23T15:33+10:00

Former Gold Coast defender Campbell Brown believes his old side is close to running out of excuses.

The Suns sit 15th on the ladder after five rounds with just one win and were smashed by the Western Bulldogs in Round 4.

Brown wonders whether Gold Coast will drop away again as the season goes on as we have seen in previous years.

“They always get injuries and long-term injuries, and it’s probably been the case for the last four years, to really good players,” he told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“Matt Rowell again and Jarrod Witts, Sam Day, they just don’t have the depth to cover a lot of those injuries, but eventually they’re going to have to stop using that as an excuse because they’ve been starting the year off well and falling off a cliff.

“I can see that unfolding again this year in the same manner it has the last couple.”

Is pressure now beginning to mount on coach Stuart Dew?

“Probably not,” Brown added.

“It’ll start to grow if they don’t continue to be really competitive and don’t start winning games.

“Every club has injuries and every club has bad luck. I think the Suns have a little bit of leeway, but the excuses will have to start running out eventually because we’re in a win-loss competition and Dew doesn’t have a heap of wins at that footy club over that tenure.

“They were non-competitive right from the opening bounce and that’s what we have come to expect from the Gold Coast early days, not over the last few years.”

The Suns host Sydney at Metricon Stadium on Saturday before taking on Collingwood on the MCG.
