“They’re stopping the passion”: Actor calls for NRL to let fans loose

2021-04-24T13:26+10:00

Actor Rob Shehadie believes the NRL and other modern sporting leagues are “stopping the passion” of fans, resulting in a more boring experience.

Shehadie, a mad Parramatta Eels supporter, expressed his frustration on SEN’s NRL Crunch Time after Joel Caine reflected on the 2009 NRL Grand Final, in which Caine described Fuifui Moimoi’s try as “the loudest roar I ever heard at ANZ stadium.”

“Sometimes I feel like sporting teams are stopping the passion,” Shehadie said.

“I look to the A-League (for example), and whenever there’s a team that has passion I know it brings a little bit of trouble, but I love passion, and we seem to cut it down quick."

The Here Come the Habibs! star spoke on his experience as an MC to the Canterbury Bulldogs 2014 Grand Final team, and the reception the team received during the week.

“I was amazed,” Shehadie said.

“When the Bulldogs make the final Belmore just goes wild.”

Shehadie remains cautiously optimistic his beloved Parramatta Eels would be able to return to ANZ Stadium again in October.
