Dunstall questions “unprofessional” Adelaide medical sub call

AFL great Jason Dunstall has criticised an “unprofessional” Adelaide blunder from Sunday’s 102-99 loss to hawthorn.

Veteran Tom Lynch was named as the medical sub for the Crows but wasn’t ready to come onto the ground once young defender Will Hamill was ruled out of the game due to a lower leg injury.

Matthew Nicks wasn’t able to make the switch instantly as Lynch hadn’t warmed up or and was yet to be strapped, calling for Dunstall to question the Crows’ lack of preparedness.

“I’m surprised they didn’t have someone ready to play,” Dunstall said on Fox Footy’s telecast.

“I still can’t believe this. There is a story to that because it is unprofessional if the sub is not ready to go.

“There is something wrong there.”

Dunstall questioned the decision to choose Lynch as the sub once he failed to make an impact on the game post-match.

“A sub that wasn’t ready to play,” Dunstall said.

“He had to go down to the rooms, he didn’t have his boots on, didn’t have his ankles strapped, hadn’t been warmed up and they didn’t want to play him.

“He couldn’t run, when he was out on the field he couldn’t move.

“The sub comes on and everyone is tiring they usually stand out, but he couldn’t get in motion.

“And in the end the Hawks have held the Adelaide Crows to a two-goal second half.”

The Crows now hold a 3-3 record following the three-point loss.
