Watson names his three best innings for Australia and the fastest bowler he faced

Shane Watson has named his best three innings for Australia across Test, ODI and T20 cricket.

Watson, who played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs and 58 T20s for Australia, says three innings in particular stand out from the rest.

“For Australia individually, there’s probably three innings,” Watson told SEN’s This Is Your Sporting Life thanks to Tobin Brothers Funerals.

“One is my highest score (176) at The Oval in an Ashes Test in 2013. To be able to bat like that after the issues I had, especially the lbw issues, throughout the series.

“The 161 at the MCG in a one-day game against England. And from a T20 perspective for Australia, my highest score (124 not out) against India in 2016.

“After I’d been dropped from Test and one-day cricket, to know that I still had that skill inside of me was very memorable.”

Watson also named the fastest bowler he faced during his 20-year career at the top level.

“The fastest bowler I faced was Shoaib Akhtar in a one-day game,” he said.

“It was a winter series, and this game was at the Gabba. Shoaib Akhtar got five (wickets) for not many, the ball was reversing very early … and it was my 21st birthday.

“It was crazy fast, like 157 to 158 kph. I remember that innings very clearly because I hardly saw the ball.”

The all-rounder announced his retirement from all forms of cricket at the age of 39 late last year.
