AFL increases max capacity for Docklands and Geelong

2021-05-05T10:29+10:00

Marvel Stadium and GMHBA Stadium will move to 85 per cent capacity this weekend.

It can be revealed the AFL has received approval from the Victorian government for Victoria’s other major football venues to join the MCG’s capacity ceiling from Round 8.

The development has also paved the way for supporters to return to their reserved seats from Round 9 in what is a huge fan breakthrough.

Reduced capacity in stadiums and within individual seating bays had seen thousands of fans unable to sit with family and friends in the seats they had paid for and occupied for years.

But the league has been able to restructure the seating configuration to ensure a return to normal arrangements.

Fans will be able to download a digital membership card from their club on their smart phone to gain entry without having to register for seats.

Supporters without a smart phone will be provided with alternative instructions by their respective clubs.

The general public and members without specific reserved seat entitlements will still need to register for tickets through ticket agencies.

The AFL will this morning announce that they have topped the one million mark for club memberships only eight weeks into the season.
