Is Toby Greene one of the five best players in the AFL?

2021-05-06T11:53+10:00

Kane Cornes believes GWS star Toby Greene has elevated his game to the point where he is a top five player in the AFL.

Playing mostly as a marking forward, Greene has kicked 19.20 this year, averaging 19 disposals, nine score involvements and five marks per game.

He has also done so while leading the Giants in the absence of captain Stephen Coniglio.

SEN SA Breakfast host Andrew Hayes believes Greene would be a much bigger name if he played in Victoria.

“He’s under the radar. If he was doing what he’s doing at Collingwood, can you imagine how big of a star he would be?” Hayes said.

“Think about how much attention Jordan De Goey gets versus Toby Greene and now compare the two.”

Cornes agreed, saying he couldn’t think higher of the 27-year-old.

“You’re probably right. I couldn’t rate Greene any higher,” Cornes said.

“I think he’s a top five player in the game.

“He is extraordinary. He plays the toughest position on the ground, gets the most attention from the opposition, never complains.

“I think he is a player that has won the competition over.

“Three years ago everyone hated him, they loved to hate him and now it’s cool to like Toby Greene and it so it should be.”

Greene yesterday signed a two-year contract extension, tying him to the Giants until the end of 2026 given his existing deal.
