“How do you miss it?” Finch weighs in on Hutchison incident

2021-05-08T17:06+10:00

A fiery Brett Finch has roasted the performance of the bunker and the on-field referees in Friday night's controversial match between the Sydney Roosters and the Parramatta Eels.

The bunker’s decision to not immediately report Parramatta halfback Dylan Brown for his knee on counterpart Drew Hutchison left many fans and commentators disgruntled.

Speaking on SEN’s NRL Crunch Time with Joel Caine and Paul Sironen, Finch couldn’t believe the inaction by the officials.

“If it’s in the run of play, and they miss something in the backfield (then it’s) understandable,” Finch said.

“But this (incident) was replayed a dozen times, and then there was halftime and there was a penalty goal kicked and then there was 15 minutes.

“It’s got nothing to do with technology, how do you miss it?” Finch added.

Joel Caine agreed with Finch, and questioned why a decision to report a player had to be made by the on-field referee.

“The world knew within a few minutes that (Brown) was going to be charged,” Caine said.

“Why can’t we with technology go, okay we’ve had a chance to digest this and look this through, why can’t we then put him on report… why can’t we use this technology and not spoil the game?”

Dylan Brown has since been charged over the incident, and can accept three weeks with an early plea, despite Parramatta coach Brad Arthur’s assertion that Brown “tried to pull out” of the action.

Parramatta will be hopeful they can consolidate their top four position without Brown when they take on the New Zealand Warriors next Sunday.
