Opposition teams "coming for Harry in a big, big way": Lyon

2021-05-10T07:05+10:00

Carlton key forward Harry McKay has been the breakout star of the 2021 season and is out of contract at the end of the year.

The current Coleman Medal leader’s value continues to increase and Garry Lyon has heard that multiple clubs are pursuing the 23-year-old.

“This is what I know for a fact. Clubs are coming for Harry in a big, big way,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“He’s as promising a big key forward as you’ve got in the competition right now, he’s out of contract and they’re coming for him.

“They’re going to ask the question and put a massive carrot in front of Harry McKay.

“Big Harry nearly singlehandedly lifted them to victory.”

Carlton gave up a five-goal lead to the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon, with the key forward kicking four goals.

Tim Watson agreed with Lyon’s last point, saying McKay could have won the game for the Blues in the final term if they got the ball to him enough.

“All they had to do in that last quarter was get the ball inside 50 as often as the Bulldogs did. Harry was marking everything,” Watson said.

Carlton drafted McKay with pick 10 in the 2015 National Draft.

It was reported last year that Essendon attempted to lure him on a big-money deal in the trade period, but he elected to stay with the Blues.
