Matthew Lloyd’s top 7 players from Round 8

2021-05-11T11:38+10:00

Essendon great and Sportsday regular Matthew Lloyd has named his top seven players from Round 8.

Lloyd was particularly impressed by Geelong forward Jeremy Cameron who booted a season-high six goals against reigning premiers Richmond.

Cameron’s partner in crime Tom Hawkins (four goals) also made Lloyd’s list, as did Western Bulldogs duo Marcus Bontempelli and Josh Bruce.

See Lloyd’s top 7 players from Round 8 below:

1. Jeremy Cameron (Geelong)

"When he burst onto the scene at the Giants, he was turning players inside out and running back (to goal). I think that’s when he’s at his best.

"He had 22 disposals, eight marks, six goals. They (Richmond) didn’t have an answer for him on Friday night."

2. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs)

"He’s unlucky to be No.2 - 32 disposals, eight tackles, 10 clearances, 10 inside 50s and a goal – what a player."

3. Tom McDonald (Melbourne)

"Christian Petracca said he’s gone on an all-steak diet and he’s dropped kilos that way."

4. Tom Hawkins (Geelong)

"He’s so unselfish - 20 disposals, 4.1, seven marks, 16 score involvements - amazing."

Gerard Healy: "It was one of the best games I’ve seen him play."

5. Darcy Moore (Collingwood)

"Took 19 marks in a game of football and 28 disposals. It’s good to see him back comfortable where he belongs."

6. Josh Kelly (GWS)

"I’ve gone with Josh Kelly at No.6 with 30 disposals and two goals."

7. Josh Bruce (Western Bulldogs)

"What a turnaround.

"(Aaron) Naughton was held by (Jacob) Weitering at times yesterday (Sunday) but Bruce had (Liam Jones and (Luke) Parks - 5.2 and 11 marks.

"It was a lightbulb moment for him in the off-season, he had to get fitter."
