The talented South Australian Adelaide should attempt to lure home

2021-05-13T12:02+10:00

Adelaide is reportedly one of the four teams with the most salary cap space available at the end of the year.

Kane Cornes believes the Crows should use the space to target young South Australians at other clubs to bolster their list and speed up their rebuild.

“Reportedly, there are four clubs with the most room in their salary cap at the end of the year. North Melbourne, Adelaide, Essendon and Hawthorn, according to Tom Morris,” Cornes told SEN SA Breakfast.

“My question for Crows fans, what would you want to do with the cash?

“I’ve got a suggestion. How about you go and offer a truckload to South Australians at other clubs you think might be gettable?

“Players that are under the age of 24. Easier said than done.”

Cornes sees Sydney forward Will Hayward as someone the Crows should target.

Hayward is contracted with the Swans until the end of 2024, but has only played four games this year.

“The obvious ones are Jack Lukosius and Izak Rankine and I doubt Gold Coast would be interested in dealing them away,” Cornes said.

“But I’ve got one. I wonder whether Will Hayward from Sydney is gettable because I think this kid can be a very good footballer.

“He is perfect for what Adelaide needs. A medium sized forward, tough, really good in the air, in time he could go into the midfield.

“They need a smaller forward and one that can get possessions forward of centre and have an impact.

“Will Hayward wasn’t getting a game at the start of the year either.”

Hayward was drafted out of North Adelaide with pick 21 in the 2016 National Draft.

Fellow Swan Jordan Dawson is out of contract at the end of the year and is also a native South Australian.
