Who would be leading the Brownlow Medal after Round 8?

Tim Watson and Garry Lyon have predicted their Brownlow Medal leaders as we approach the midway point of the season.

Watson has Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn leading ahead of Brisbane midfielder Hugh McCluggage, Fremantle veteran David Mundy and Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontemeplli.

Lyon has Mundy in front with Melbourne star Christian Petracca in second.

Lions star Lachie Neale is the reigning Brownlow Medal winner, polling 31 votes in last year's count.

McCluggage (42 votes) is the new leader in the AFL Coaches' Association Champion Player Award after polling an equal game-high eight votes against Fremantle.

Mundy (38), Gawn (34), Gold Coast vice-captain Touk Miller (34), Port Adelaide gun Ollie Wines (34) and Bulldogs ball-magnet Jack Macrae (33) have also polled well in the coaches' voting.
