Jeff Browne expected to launch Collingwood presidency challenge within weeks

Caroline Wilson is expecting Jeff Browne to launch a challenge to become Collingwood president within weeks.

Despite only being appointed less than a month ago as Eddie McGuire’s replacement, current president Mark Korda looks set to come under increasing pressure to retain his position.

Wilson reported in The Age on Saturday that Korda could be forced to “step aside” for Browne’s board ticket, or take him on at an extraordinary general meeting.

She said that Browne, who has significant support, was a “strong favourite” win the presidency despite McGuire’s replacement being in the role for such a short period.

“I now see this as a certain challenge by Jeff Browne that I think will happen in the next few weeks to take over the Collingwood board,” she said on the Don’t Shoot The Messenger podcast.

“I reckon he’s a strong favourite to win that challenge, whether it’s an extraordinary general meeting or whether the current board steps aside or whether there’s a fight, I do not know.

“The AFL landscape is really going to change when Jeff Browne comes back onto the scene, which I’m sure he will.

“There are board takeovers but they can be pleasant or unpleasant and the big question now is whether this one is going to be easy or difficult.”

Browne is a former managing director of the Nine Network, having quite the job in 2013.
