Father-son prospect the “biggest bullet” in this year’s AFL Draft

2021-05-21T08:18+10:00

Sam Darcy, the son of Western Bulldogs champion Luke, has been described as the “biggest bullet” in this year’s National Draft.

Standing at 203cm, Darcy is eligible to join the Bulldogs as a father-son selection while potential No.1 pick Nick Daicos, the son of Collingwood great Peter, is almost certain to join the Magpies.

It could mean that likely wooden spooners North Melbourne won’t have access to the first two picks in this year’s draft.

Brownlow Medallist Gerard Healy overheard an interesting conversation between two player managers at a Melbourne café on Thursday.

“I went in just by coincidence around lunch time,” Healy told Sportsday.

“They didn’t see me, and I saw them, so I sidled up behind them and they were talking about a kid I’ve known about but haven’t really heard about.

“I’m told he is the biggest bullet in the draft and he’s going that well he may go from somewhere between 15 and 20 to challenge Nick Daicos as the No.1 pick.

“My ears overheard this conversation that Sam Darcy, son of Luke, is killing them at Scotch College and they look forward to his performance with the Oakleigh Charges as the NAB League continues.”

It comes after the Bulldogs successfully secured Jamarra Ugle-Hagan with the first pick in last year’s draft via the club’s Next Generation Academy.
