Richmond coach flags role change for veteran forward

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has flagged a potential role change for Jack Riewoldt during Sunday’s game against Adelaide.

Originally scheduled to be played at the MCG, Victoria’s COVID situation saw the game moved to GIANTS Stadium.

Hardwick’s side welcomes back a host of big names for the clash, with the likes of Dion Prestia, Shai Bolton and captain Trent Cotchin all returning from respective injuries.

He said Riewoldt’s role “will look a little bit different” during parts of the game against the Crows.

“(His role) may change a little bit,” he told reporters on Saturday.

“We had a training session yesterday where his role will look a little bit different at various stages, but predominately it’ll stay the same.

“With some personnel that go down there (Riewoldt's role will) be a different at stages and hopefully you’ll get a good look at that tomorrow (in the game against Adelaide).”

The Tigers left Victoria on Thursday afternoon amid a backdrop of uncertainty, just hours after the state’s seven-day lockdown was announced.

Hardwick said he was still unsure what the coming days would hold, with the club’s showpiece Dreamtime at the G game against Essendon scheduled to take place in Melbourne next Saturday night.

“We don’t (know what’s happening in Round 12) at this stage,” he said.

“We have our bags packed and the expectation is we could be anywhere. Once again we’ll deal with what we know right now and that’s playing Adelaide on Sunday.

“We’ll worry about that when the AFL come back to us, possibly on Sunday night.”
