AFL confirms big fixture change as Dreamtime relocates

2021-05-30T18:25+10:00

The AFL has announced that Round 12’s Dreamtime match between Essendon and Richmond will be moved from the MCG to Optus Stadium.

The clubs were informed today that the Sir Douglas Nicholls Round clash has been moved due to Victoria’s ongoing COVID-19 situation and statewide lockdown.

AFL fixtures boss Travis Auld said the league is excited to bring the “showcase” game to footy fans in Perth.

“As we continue to navigate the ongoing situation in Victoria, along with the relevant state border restrictions currently in place across the country, we have made the decision to move the match to Optus Stadium,” Mr. Auld said.

“While it is disappointing we have had to relocate this game from the MCG, we are equally excited to showcase this important celebration to Western Australian footy fans.

“We would like to thank the respective State Governments, our broadcast partner the Seven Network, Optus Stadium and both clubs for their partnership as we worked through this arrangement.”

The game will be shown live on Seven Network and Fox Footy, and will commence at 5:40pm AWST / 7:40pm AEST on Saturday, June 5.

The AFL will provide an update on the remaining Round 12 games in the coming days.
