"The party you want to be at”: Bombers rebuild on similar path to flag contender

Justin Leppitsch is liking what Essendon is building and sees similarities to Brisbane’s path in becoming a destination club.

The rejuvenated Bombers are playing an exciting brand of football under senior coach Ben Rutten and Leppitsch says it could lead to players wanting to join the club in the future.

“They are the party you want to be at,” the former Brisbane coach told SEN’s Whateley.

“I think the players want to stay there, they really enjoy the environment, and what normally follows is that people actually want to come to your football club.

“Players that aren’t happy at certain clubs start saying, ‘They look like a really happy club. They’ve got a really young list. They’re going to be good for a long period of time’.

“I thought Brisbane had this under Chris Fagan when Lachie Neale goes, ‘I really like the look of what’s going on over there. They’re a young list and look like they’re well coached’.

“They built an environment that players wanted to be a part of, and I think that Essendon have got a very similar feel at this point in time.”

Essendon (5-6) could move into the top eight if they beat eight-placed Richmond (6-5) in Saturday night’s Dreamtime clash at Optus Stadium.
