"We must be united": Can John Messara end racing's biggest feud?

2021-06-01T11:15+10:00

John Messara has been appointed as Chair of Racing Australia.

Racing Australia has announced that Messara will be replacing Greg Nichols as Chair after his tenure ended in April.

Speaking with SEN Track’s Bensley, Messara addressed the feud between Racing NSW and Racing Victoria and his goal in improving this important relationship that has worsened in recent time.

The QuaddieThon has arrived!

“I’m hoping that I can persuade both sides to meet somewhere in the middle, I’ve got this role because I’m passionate about resolving this feud,” Messara explained.

“I love the industry and I don’t like what’s going on. There’s so much more we can do for this industry if we’re united.

“NSW and Vic are the two biggest jurisdictions in the country, what a message it would send to the rest of the racing world that we’re unified.”

The bitter relationship between Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys and his Victorian counterparts has declined considerably since Racing Victoria decided to act alone with several issues in the industry.

Messara is the owner of Arrowfield Stud and has been in and around the racing industry for over 20 years.
