The “iconic moment” that made former All Black “proud to be a Kiwi”

Former All Black Israel Dagg has recalled the sporting moment that made him proud to be a New Zealander.

Dagg, who played 66 Tests for the All Blacks between 2010 and 2017, fondly reminisced a moment 26 years ago in the Rugby World Cup Semi-Final involving the great, late Jonah Lomu.

Lomu, who was 20 at the time, steamrolled England’s Mike Catt on his way to four tries as the All Blacks won 45-29 in Cape Town.

“I remember vividly watching the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa and that iconic moment when Jonah Lomu ran over Mike Catt,” Dagg told SENZ.

“Even though we didn’t get to lift the Webb Ellis trophy, it still made me proud to be a Kiwi.”

The New Zealand side would lose 15-12 to hosts South Africa after extra-time in the Johannesburg Final.

As for the proudest moment of his own international career, Dagg recalls his All Blacks debut which came in 2010 against Ireland in New Plymouth.

“It would have to be my first All Blacks start,” he added.

“Singing the anthem, to doing the Haka for the first time, to seeing the silver fern on my jersey.

“By far my proudest and greatest achievement.”

Dagg will be a key feature of SENZ once the station launches later this year, hosting Baz & Izzy for Breakfast alongside New Zealand cricket royalty Brendon McCullum.
