Essendon cops big injury blow as scans reveal full nature of McGrath setback

2021-06-07T15:14+10:00

Essendon midfielder Andrew McGrath will miss up to 12 weeks after scans revealed he sustained a PCL injury in Saturday night’s loss to Richmond.

The 23-year-old came off in the first term and was immediately subbed out, with the Bombers confirming on Monday afternoon he will miss between 8-12 weeks as a result of the injury.

“We are really disappointed for Andy (McGrath) who was putting together a consistent season to date as part of our midfield group,” Essendon GM of Football Josh Mahoney said in a statement.

“Andy is a true professional who will be very driven to see a return to play as soon as possible. We know he will attack his rehabilitation program and continue to contribute to the team while not playing.”

Essendon has the bye in Round 13 before beginning the second half of their season with a clash against Hawthorn, currently scheduled at the MCG.
