"Numb" Scott Pendlebury comments on Nathan Buckley's exit

2021-06-09T12:21+10:00

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury has spoken following the shock departure of coach Nathan Buckley.

Pendlebury said he found out about the news with the rest of the club on Wednesday morning.

“It’s a bit of a shock. You come in to train today. It’s definitely a shock. The first time in my career I’ve been through something like this before,” he said.

“I feel almost a little bit numb.

“Like everything it started to get out pretty quickly. Planned to have a chat with the leaders and then the timeline sped up so it was as a full group and he came out and just spoke.

“He thinks it’s the best thing for the club and no person is bigger than the club and thinks it’s the right time to step away and spoke about his gratitude for the place. He’s spent half his life here.

“The first we heard of it was literally as a football department we came in and they spoke about the decision.”

Buckley will take the reins for the last time on Monday for the Queen’s Birthday clash with Melbourne at the SCG.
