NRL crystal ball: Predicting the storylines ahead of Round 14

2021-06-10T15:40+10:00

With Round 14 of the NRL season kicking off on Friday night, SEN’s Matt White and Tom Costigan have predicted what the headlines will read once all eight games are complete.

Interesting stories are bound to pop up over the weekend, but time will tell if the below headlines read true come Monday.

Valentine’s revenge

Reason: “First game tomorrow night at Four Pines Park (Brookvale),” Costigan said on SEN 1170 Mornings.

“I don’t think Tom Trbojevic or Jake Trbojevic will play for Manly, I don’t think Des (Hasler) will pick Tom due to his troublesome hamstrings off just a two-day rest.

"That’s why I’m tipping the Cowboys, and I think Valentine Holmes will have a big one and score at least one try.”

Magnificent Manu

Reason: “I’m tipping James Tedesco not to play (for the Roosters).

“He’s coming back from Townsville today, and he’d have to fly out to the Gold Coast tomorrow.

“Trent Robinson doesn’t usually like playing his Origin players straight away, he likes to rest them.

“I think Joseph Manu will play at fullback without Tedesco, and he’ll have a big game.”

Cleary too good

Reason: “It’s from the Origin result but it has to be included.

“Nathan Cleary was clearly better than Daly Cherry Evans in the halfback battle.

“It was just a great performance from the whole New South Wales team on Wednesday night, and Cleary led the way.”
