Report: Bizarre reason behind Hawthorn forward’s concussion revealed

2021-06-10T21:20+10:00

Hawthorn forward Mitch Lewis will miss Friday night’s game against Sydney after being punched by a teammate during a sparring session at training earlier in the week, according to Fox Footy’s Tom Morris.

The 22-year-old was listed as sustaining a concussion due to a head knock, but it later emerged he picked up the injury because of a particularly vigorous boxing session.

While Lewis will miss the game, the Hawks welcome back Jaeger O’Meara and Will Day, while Jai Newcombe will make his debut after being picked in last week’s mid-season draft.

In other team news, Robbie Tarrant and Jaidyn Stephenson are back for North Melbourne ahead of their game in Tasmania against GWS, who regain Toby Greene.

Meanwhile, Richmond has opted to drop midfielder Riley Collier-Dawkins after six consecutive games.
