Warriors re-signings continue as Afoa puts pen to paper

2021-06-11T09:04+10:00

The New Zealand Warriors have announced the re-signing of prop Bunty Afoa who has committed to the club for a further two years.

Afoa’s signing comes just after long-time teammate Jazz Tevaga committed for the same length, with both players now secured until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Tevaga, 25, and Afoa, 24, loom as key signings for the Warriors with both big-men about to enter the prime years of their careers.

Coach Nathan Brown said he expects Afoa to add to his game in years to come.

“Bunty has worked really hard on his game and I couldn’t be more pleased that he’s staying with the club,” Brown said via a club statement.

“He has put in a lot of effort on his all-round play and we expect him to continue to grow and add to his game to make him a more rounded player in the years to come.”

Brown has also been impressed with Tevaga’s quick improvement in key areas.

"Jazz has been really consistent in his training and the way he has played this season," Brown said.

"I’ve been impressed with the way he’s gone about improving his game and what he brings in terms of team dynamics.

"Every area the coaches have asked him to improve he’s worked on and we’re seeing good results."

Afoa has been named on the bench, while Tevaga has been listed in the reserves for Sunday’s clash against the Melbourne Storm at Central Coast Stadium.
