The club that would be best suited to Ross Lyon

2021-06-11T11:53+10:00

Nick Dal Santo can see Ross Lyon return to coaching in 2022.

Dal Santo, who worked under Lyon at St Kilda, says Carlton would be the club best suited to the former Saints and Fremantle coach.

The Blues under current coach David Teague appear likely to miss the finals amid an external review of the club’s football department.

Carlton president Mark LoGiudice clarified that Teague’s job is safe for 2022 and that the mid-season review is “not a coaching review”.

“I even think some of the words that Ross has used for the first time in a long time was one of possibility,” Dal Santo told SEN’s The Picks.

“I will say this, and this is not to say that anything at the Blues will definitely happen, but I still think that if Ross Lyon was to go to a club, I think he’s better suited at the Blues.

“I look at that playing list and look at that playing group and what is possible … it has to have more upside.

“If Ross was to be at the Blues, I could see an immediate spike in performance, accountability and culture.

“I’m not saying that David Teague needs to go or should be shown the door at the end of the year, but if you said to me what club would Ross Lyon be best suited to, for me, it’s the Blues.”

Lyon is open to a conversation with Collingwood over their coaching vacancy once Nathan Buckley departs after Monday’s Queen’s Birthday match.
