Fremantle great comments on future of two key in-demand young guns

2021-06-14T16:36+10:00

If Fremantle could only re-sign one of gun midfielder Adam Cerra or important ruckman Sean Darcy, who would they choose?

It was a question put to Dockers great Matthew Pavlich, as the side looks to lock away two of their most important young players in the coming months.

Cerra, who is currently unsigned beyond this year, is currently weighing up whether to stay in Western Australia or return home to Victoria at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Darcy is still contracted until the end of 2022 but is also reportedly attracting interest from elsewhere.

When asked on SEN WA who he’d choose between Cerra and Darcy, Pavlich said he would lean towards a key position players because of how valuable they are.

“It’s a great question,” he said on Gilly and Goss.

“Fremantle would clearly be working overtime to keep both of them, Sean Darcy is only 23 and we all know what ruckman do once they get past the age of 25 or 26 so he’s a huge an important player for that football club.

“I’ve been a big wrap for Adam Cerra for a long time, he doesn’t get as much ball as Andrew Brayshaw, but what he does with ball in hand is as good as David Mundy and that’s saying something.

“If you have to choose one, key position players are really important long term. Jason Dunstall would say ruckman aren’t worth paying overs for and getting key midfielders in (can) change the game.

“On current form, I’d say Sean Darcy because of his improvement in the past few weeks, but longer-term Adam Cerra will be a better player.

“You’d want to keep him part of that midfield group.”
