Matthew Lloyd's top 7 impact players in the game

2021-06-15T10:12+10:00

Matthew Lloyd has named who he believes are the top seven impact players in the competition.

The Essendon great rates these players as those who have the biggest impact on the result of games.

While he believes Marcus Bontempelli is currently the game’s best player, Dustin Martin still holds the mantle as the number one in this category.

See his rankings below:

7. Liam Ryan (West Coast)

“He can change the game with his marks and his goals,” Lloyd told Sportsday.

6. Jeremy Cameron (Geelong)

“This guy is the difference between whether Geelong wins it or not. They’ve shown they haven’t been quite good enough. Jeremy could be the difference.”

5. Toby Greene (GWS)

“Again, whether they win or lose often depends on Toby Greene.”

4. Nic Naitanui (West Coast)

“His last quarter was extraordinary and I think was the difference getting over the line against Richmond.”

3. Christian Petracca (Melbourne)

“He couldn’t do it today against Collingwood, but Petracca has shown over the course of 18 months that he’s a game breaker.”

2. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs)

“I think he may well win the Brownlow this year. He is a star.”

1. Dustin Martin (Richmond)

“When you win three Norm Smith Medals, he is the ultimate big game player. He is the number one impact player, not necessarily the best player at the moment, I think Bont is currently the best player, but Dusty is the biggest impact player.”
