Gary Rohan snatches Geelong victory from the Bulldog jaws of defeat

2021-06-18T22:47+10:00

Geelong has stolen four points away from the Western Bulldogs, with a Gary Rohan goal after the siren swinging the result in the five-point win.

The Cats needed to go coast to coast with a minute to spare and did so thanks in part to a diving Joel Selwood effort.

The ball ended up in the hands of Rohan, who became just the second player to ever kick a match-winning goal after the siren for two different clubs - joining Barry Hall.

The win levels Geelong with the Bulldogs on the ladder. A significant swing in the battle for the top four.

Here’s everything you need to know!

The Moment: Gary Rohan wins it after the buzzer

The lead changed 13 times, with scores level on eight occasions.

Rohan delivered number 13.

The Medical Room: Key injuries on both sides

The tight contest came at a cost for both teams. Before a ball was bounced, Lachie Henderson was withdrawn with a sore hip, while Stefan Martin missed for the Bulldogs.

Geelong needed to activate their sub almost immediately as Mitch Duncan hobbled off with a knee injury. Shaun Higgins was initially set for a rest, but was needed for all four quarters after taking off the imaginary green vest.

Tom Hawkins meanwhile finished the game in significant pain with a strained neck suffered in a fourth quarter contest.

The Bulldogs had their injury scare before half-time, with Aaron Naughton hurting his ribs in a marking contest. He was substituted out of the game, with no current update on the severity.

The Star: Tom Stewart

Tom Stewart took 10 intercept marks and was impassable for the Cats across the night.

He finished with 27 disposals and 13 marks total and was instrumental in keeping Geelong within striking range.

The Bulldogs put the ball down his throat on a few occasions, but Stewart read the ball to perfection from start to finish.

He is a lock in the All-Australian team as things stand.
