Bulldogs forward cleared of serious injury after bruising encounter

2021-06-19T10:50+10:00

Western Bulldogs spearhead Aaron Naughton will tomorrow morning board a plane for Perth having been cleared of internal damage.

Naughton was subbed out of Friday night’s after-the-siren loss to Geelong at half-time after he was collected by Jed Bews in the final moments of the first half.

The high-flying forward was taken immediately to hospital amid concerns over his abdomen and ribs. He was checked again on Saturday morning.

Naughton is said to be sore, but only his recovery and range of movement will dictate whether he plays West Coast next Sunday at the end of what will be a testing week for the Bulldogs.

The club has been forced to ditch its trip to Sydney, where players, staff and family members were set to base themselves, before flying to Perth later in the week.

An outbreak of Covid cases in the harbour city means the Dogs will now to Perth tomorrow morning where they will be made to quarantine at the Joondalup Resort, half an hour outside the city, for a week before facing the Eagles.

The players will also have to postpone their four-day break, which was delayed after they trained during their bye break.
