North Melbourne “one of the worst teams in the AFL era”

2021-06-20T10:39+10:00

Kane Cornes has labelled North Melbourne “one of the worst teams in the AFL era” after falling to their 11th loss of the season.

The Kangaroos were gallant but ultimately fell short against Brisbane, losing by 23 points after conceding five of the last six goals at Blundstone Arena on Saturday.

North is -187 for points in last quarters in 2021 as a first wooden spoon since 1972 beckons for David Noble’s young side.

“They’ve won one game out of their last 27,” Cornes told AFL Media’s The Round So Far.

“We’re looking at one of the worst teams in the AFL era, really, when you look at win-loss.

“I know they had a draw last week and they’ve been in some winnable positions, but they’ve won one game for the year. They've won one out of their last 27.

“What has gone on at this club?

“It’s clearly not criticism towards David Noble because I think he’s going to be a fine coach and do a great job, but we are watching one of the worst sides we’ve ever seen unfortunately, and the win-loss record backs that up.”

North Melbourne (1-11-1) will look to notch their second win of the season against fellow strugglers Gold Coast (4-9) next Saturday afternoon.
