Local Victorian cricket club confirms talks with three international greats

Brian Lara, Chris Gayle and Yuvraj Singh could be lining up for Mulgrave Cricket Club next summer.

Mulgrave president Malin Pullenayegam has confirmed the club has held positive talks with Lara and Gayle – two West Indian icons and Singh – a World Cup winner with India – over potential T20 appearances in Victoria’s Eastern Cricket Association competition.

“We’re definitely having a chat with them. In discussions, looking very good,” Pullenayegam told SEN Drive.

“It’s yet to be confirmed, but yes, those are potential (signings) for the T20 comp.

“We’ve got a good partner at the moment which is Global Entertainment. They do a lot of big sponsors with a lot of players internationally.

“We’ve had the blessing of one of the key members playing for Mulgrave, so we’ve utilised that.

“We’ve had a fair few new ones (sponsors) come on board. They’ve given us the opportunity to bring this kind of calibre of player to the local community cricket.”

Mulgrave has already locked in Sri Lankan greats Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya as captain and coach respectively for the upcoming season.

Former Sri Lankan opener Upul Tharanga has also signed for the local Victorian club.
