Melbourne City receive major boost ahead of A-League GF

2021-06-23T08:25+10:00

Melbourne City striker Jamie Maclaren has extended his contract by a further two years.

Maclaren’s two-year extension means he is tied to City until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Socceroos marksman has been in lethal form this season, netting 25 league goals to clinch his second consecutive A-League Golden Boot award.

It’s a major boost for City ahead of Sunday’s A-League Grand Final against Sydney FC.

“You always have that one club in your career where it just feels like home. Melbourne City is that place for me – both on and off the pitch,” Maclaren said in a club statement.

“This group is special and we’re building something unique. When people think of Melbourne City, we want our fans to see our strong culture, enjoy our style of attacking football and to celebrate with us when we win trophies. We work hard every day to achieve this.

“For the fans, when I hear you chant my name, it motivates me to score. I feel very lucky, I’m a proud Melbourne boy, who gets to represent this great football club.”

Maclaren will hope to fire City to their first A-League title after they lost to the Sky Blues in last year’s decider.

The 27-year-old is now a three-time A-League Golden Boot winner.
