Western Bulldogs father-son prospect Sam Darcy continues to impress at under 18 level.
Sam, the son of club great Luke Darcy, has been one of the breakout stars of the year playing for the Oakleigh Chargers.
AFL Talent Ambassador and draft guru Kevin Sheehan believes the youngster has the tools to be a star at the elite level.
“Had a good look at young Sam Darcy the other day. He was impressive, very impressive,” Sheehan told SEN’s Drive.
“I liken him to Harris Andrews. If you think of a young Harris Andrews in his first year or two.
“Young Darcy is 204cm. He’s not 197cm. I’ve read that in a couple of spots. He’s a lot bigger. He’s 204 – that’s a big difference.
“He has these long arms like Harris Andrews. He gets to spots that a 198cm kid doesn’t get to. He’s way up there.
“His touch up in the air is brilliant. He’s a one-touch player. He’s a good kick, Harris Andrews was also a good kick, this kid’s a very good kick for a 204cm player. He spots them up every time and can play down back or up forward or in the ruck.
“For me, I’ve seen him twice this year, he looks an outstanding prospect.
“He obviously needs time. Think of the King twins in their 18th year physically. He’s very light at the minute.
“You need to be patient and spend two or three years getting the body right to be a star at AFL level.
“He’s got the tools, being the marking ability, the kicking ability, the courage, he stood under a mark right where I was and the pack was coming and he didn’t flinch one bit and marked it clean as a whistle under pressure. He’s a good shot for goal.
“He’s got all those things that would excite Bulldogs supporters.”
Darcy in all likelihood will join fellow father-son Bulldogs Tom Liberatore, Lachie Hunter, Mitch Wallis, Rhylee West and Zaine Cordy as well as top Academy selection Jamarra Ugle-Hagan at the Dogs next year.
