"This is the one": Roos father-son prospect excites club great

2021-06-23T16:44+10:00

Cooper Harvey, son of all-time games record holder Brent, will feature in the upcoming NAB AFL Under-17s Championships this weekend.

The son of the North Melbourne legend will feature for Vic Metro.

Two-time premiership Roo David King is excited by what he has seen of Harvey.

“He’s going to be a star. He’s probably the most exciting (father-son) recruit for the Kangas there’s been for a long time,” King told SEN’s Drive.

“This kid has just dominated the junior comps. He’s kicked mega goals. Bailey Scott is on the list, Joel Crocker was on the list for a bit, Nick Blakey chose Sydney, but this is the one.

“I thought for a while we might have father and son playing together, didn’t quite work out that way, but Cooper is going to be a ripper.”

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan provided some insight into what Roos fans can come to expect from Harvey.

“He’s about 179cm midfield-forward and he’s up at Assumption College and he’s studying up there, playing footy for them as well as in the Knights’ under 17 program,” Sheehan said.

“He’ll line up for Victoria as his dad did many times back in the day.

“He’s a very talented midfielder-forward and I’m looking forward to seeing him more."

Fellow 2022 father-son prospects Will Ashcroft (Brisbane) and Alwyn Davey Jr (Essendon) will also feature in the Under-17s Championships.
