Robert Harvey not yet thinking about full-time Pies senior coaching role

2021-06-24T13:24+10:00

Robert Harvey begins his nine-week stint as caretaker coach of Collingwood this weekend when the Pies host Fremantle.

The St Kilda great said he isn’t thinking about landing the job beyond this year at this point.

“To be honest, I just see it as a great opportunity for me and I see my role as trying to get the best out of it and trying to get some momentum going for these players,” Harvey told reporters on Thursday.

“I think they’re a great group. I haven’t thought too much about it. I see it as a nine-week block to do my best to hopefully get some good footy played by our boys, that they enjoy it, that our fans like what they see and that’s the way I see it. The rest in time looks after itself.

“I don’t see it that way, I just see it as a nine-week opportunity for growth for me.”

Harvey added that he and the club are on the same page as to what his role is.

“I don’t think I need that to be honest (clarity on whether he’s in the running for the senior job). Graham Wright has been upfront with me and made my role really clear. I’m grateful for that,” the caretaker coach said.

“As it goes on anything I need to know I’m sure he’ll tell me … at the moment my role is really clear and I’ve just got to try and execute that the best I can.”

Collingwood could be boosted by the returns of Brodie Grundy and Taylor Adams for the clash with the Dockers.
